On November 22, 2012, Hazel Gashoka posted a video online expressing her opinion about the defamation lawsuit St. Lewis v. Rancourt.

On December 18, 2012, Gashoka received a letter from Prof. Joanne St. Lewis’s lawyer stating that her video was defamatory and malicious and demanding that she take it down.

On February 11, 2013, Gashoka wrote to Allan Rock, President of the University of Ottawa and the members of the university Senate asking if the university intended to fund a lawsuit by Prof. St. Lewis against her.

On February 25, 2013, Gashoka sent out a press release announcing a press conference scheduled for February 27, 2013 at Tabaret Hall, University of Ottawa.

Full video of the February 27 press conference, including Hazel Gashoka’s speech and responses by members of the Black Law Students’ Association of Canada and other members of the community was posted on Youtube today:

The text of Hazel Gashoka’s speech can be read HERE.

A document entitled “Counter-Factuals” was distributed at the press conference by members of the Black Law Students’ Association. It can be read HERE.

  1. No. It is not ok that he used the terminology to refer to a Professor in that way. If there are legitimate issues with her assessment then speak to that!
